Richard Earl Stinson, 84, of Madison Heights, died Wednesday, March 03, 2010 at Guggenheimer Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Sammie Holley Stinson.
Born February 6, 1926 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Herman David and Viola Marks Stinson and was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Earl "Dickie" Stinson; two brothers, Robert Stinson and Frank Stinson and two sisters, Dorothy Riner and Margaret Compton. Mr. Stinson was the retired owner & operator of Green Valley Meat Processing and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was one of the founders and served on the Advisory Board for Hunters for the Hungry and was a member of Amelon United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Ralph Stinson of Madison Heights and Charles Stinson and wife, Irene of Forest.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Charles Stinson and the Rev. Dr. Paulo DaSilva officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today, March 4, 2010 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
