Mattie Staton Mays

Born in Amherst County, May 3, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Abner Garrett Staton, Jr. and Hattie Tomlin Staton. She was the retired owner of the Pleasant View Grocery and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Vincent T. Mays and his wife Robin of Lynchburg; two daughters, Frances M. Turner of Madison Heights and Becky M. Beard and her husband Kenneth of Appomattox; three brothers, Ed Staton and his wife Audrey of Buena Vista, Page Staton of Fishersville and Roy Staton of Amherst; three sisters, Rosa S. Wilson, Ruby S. Johnson and husband Julian and Maggie S. Tyree all of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Gary L. Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Allwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
