Born in Amherst County, February 11, 1932, he was the son of the late Herbert Humphreys and Mary Phillips Humphreys. He was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean conflict. He retired from G.E./Ericsson after 33 years of service and was a member of Elon Presbyterian Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
One brother, Landon Humphreys preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Gail Campbell and her husband Tony of Madison Heights; two sons, Lee Humphreys and his wife Kim of Madison Heights and David Humphreys and his wife Sherry of Monroe; two brothers, Ezra Humphreys and his wife Kitty of Madison Heights and James Humphreys and his wife Barbara of Monroe; three sisters, Cecil Ware, Margaret Ewers and Hazel Campbell all of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Wendy Campbell McClain and husband Jeremiah, Jessica Campbell Stinnett and husband Tony, Josh Humphreys, Jaxson Humphreys and Chase Humphreys and seven great grandchildren, Morgan Campbell, Kason Barnett, Carter Barnett, Kaytelynn Stinnett, Kaleb Stinnett, Adrian McClain and Madisyn McClain.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Barry Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery, Lynchburg with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the home of his daughter Gail.
