Mary Ann Turman, 91, of Madison Heights, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Daniel Mottah Moss for 30 years and the late John Ray Turman Sr. for 16 years. Born March 27, 1926 in Charlottesville, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Washington Oliver and Blanche Coffey Oliver. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister and almost constant companion, Martha O. Moss (Mott), brother Beverley Oliver and sister Madeline Oliver O’Brien. Mrs. Turman was a retired inspector with Imperial Reading Company with thirty-six years of service. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #115 and was a longtime member of Elon Baptist Church.
Mrs. Turman (Granny) is survived by her daughter, Patricia Moss Rosser and husband Reid of Coppell, TX; two grandchildren, Ashley R. Popp and husband Joel of Coppell, TX, Jody R. Bird and husband Russ of Lantana, TX. She is survived by five great-grandchildren, Jonah Thomas, Wrenn Marie and Leo Oliver Popp, Colton Allen and Cash Austin Bird.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Abby Childress who provided years of love, care and support.
The family would also like to extend thanks and gratitude to the many who have helped care for Mary through the years. This includes caregivers of The Oddfellows Home, The Carrington, the nurses, CNA’s, and volunteers of Centra Hospice.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 22, 2018 at Elon Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Tyree officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
