Born in Lynchburg, VA on August 6, 1957, he was the son of the late Channing Shelley Leckey and the late Helen Sale Leckey who just passed away on February 17, 2024.
He was a graduate of Amherst County High School and Central Virginia Community College with an Associate degree in Business Administration. He also attended Virginia Tech and Lynchburg College. For six years, he proudly served our nation in the Army National Guard in both Texas and Virginia.
Sam was a special person who loved his family and friends. His quick wit, devotion to his friends, and his ability to easily engage with others of all ages and backgrounds will be deeply missed. He enjoyed sports, solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and watching classic TV shows.

Those remaining to honor Sam's memory include his sister, Pam Courtney and husband, Rick, of Monroe, VA and his beloved nephew, Graham Chandler Courtney of Amherst VA. He is also survived by cousins and his many friends whom he loved dearly.
