Leroy Guyer Shaner Jr.

Born in Madison Heights, May 23, 1936, he was the son of the late Leroy G. Shaner and Rosa Powell Shaner. He served in the Virginia National Guard for eight years and was a retired assistant manager with the Lynchburg Foundry Federal Credit Union with 45 years of service. He was also a member of Amelon United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Joanna S. Spychalski of New Albany, OH; one son, Joel D. Shaner and his wife Kim of Madison Heights; one sister, Peggy Shaner Higgins and her husband Charles of Amherst; eight grandchildren, Madison, Sheridan, Griffin, Pearson, Payton and Darden Spychalski and Marissa and Slade Shaner; a very special niece, Lisa Wilson and her husband Bernie and a nephew, Randy Higgins and his wife Wanda.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be conducted Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Amelon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Erbin officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff of Runk & Pratt and 7-Hills Hospice for the wonderful care and attention they provided Leroy during his time there.
