Kathryn Maddox Keesee, 99, of Madison Heights, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Campbell County on July 16, 1924, the daughter of the late James Robert Maddox and Nannie Mae Reynolds Maddox.
In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel F. Keesee, and a daughter, Brenda Humphrey.
Kathryn had a deep love for nature and enjoyed gardening, demonstrating a remarkable green thumb that could make anything grow. She found joy in feeding and watching the various birds in her front yard. Kathryn was also known for her love of serving others, showcasing her excellent cooking skills, especially renowned for her delicious cornbread. Her mantra in life was to “always be hopeful’ and "always put your best foot forward," a philosophy she often shared with others.
Above all, Kathryn cherished her family dearly. She was a longtime and devoted member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
She is survived by six children, Carolyn Fitzgerald (Wayne), Mary Keesee, Helen Keesee, Nancy Navarre (Terry), Richard Keesee (Donna) and Elizabeth “Libby” Keesee; five grandchildren, Amy Leigh Thompson (Chris), Melissa Schuppe, Matthew Navarre (Charity), Sam Navarre (Brianna) and Jason Keesee (Rose); nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Terry Wornstaff officiating.
Interment will follow in Mead Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
