Katherine Austin Darling

October 8, 1955 – April 16, 2025
Obituary of Katherine Austin Darling
IN THE CARE OF

Whitten Monelison Chapel

Katherine Austin Darling, age 69, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Born on October 8, 1955, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Richard L. Austin and Thelma M. Petty. She was also preceded in death by her niece, Kimberly Wray.

Katherine was known for her strength and determination. A cancer survivor who weathered many of life’s storms, she faced each challenge with courage and a fierce spirit. Her family lovingly remembers her as a “fighter” who never gave up.

Spontaneous and full of life, Katherine loved surprising her family with last-minute getaways, especially to the beach, one of her favorite places. She had a passion for baking and was known for her homemade breads, wedding cakes, and holiday cookies. She also found joy in crocheting beautiful blankets for her children and grandchildren, and she had a fun-loving side, with a unique collection of frogs and a deep love for the open road from her days as a truck driver. Her humor, creativity, and warm heart left an impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.

Katherine is survived by her husband, Clarence G. Darling, Jr.; her four children, Jesse D. Darling (Tara), Heather D. Harris (Dan), Robert G. Darling (Shaneisha), and Amanda C. Darling; her sisters, Janet L. Powell and Sandra A. Southers; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests that services be private.
