Born April 9, 1939 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Henry Douglas and Lena Lee Harvey Stratton and was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Massie; two brothers, Calvin Stratton and Eugene Stratton; a brother-in-law, Talmadge Massie and a sister-in-law, Ida Stratton. She retired from General Electric with twenty years of service and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Madison Heights.
Joyce is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Mayberry and husband David, Christy Moyers, and Sandee Patton and husband Dale, all of Madison Heights; two step-children, Christine Pillow and husband Lynn of Lynchburg and Scott Ford and wife Miranda, of Concord; nine grandchildren, Kyla Mays, Miranda Hill, Jessica Hill, Morgan Word, Brandy Pillow, David Pillow, Arminda Patton, Troy Patton, and Curt Patton and wife Nourhan; two great-grandchildren, Jase Hill and Malik Patton; special nieces, Tiffany Wells and husband Justin and Patsy Jordan and husband Tim; nephews, “The Little Mountain Boys” and special friends, Calvin and Edith Vest, Marie Coleman, Lois Rye, Sandra Bartel, Vickie Coffey, Todd Fitzgerald, and Kim Lucas.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens in Amherst County.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, 3966 S. Amherst Highway, Madison Heights and other times at her residence.
