John “J.D.” David West, 81, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the devoted husband of the late Geraldine “Gerry” Joyce Maberry West, for almost sixty-one years. They were married, February 3, 1961. J.D. moved, with his wife and son, to Lynchburg in 1964.
Born April 19, 1941 in Amherstdale, WV, he was the son of Myrtle Wendell West Daugherty of Oak Hill, OH and the late William West. J.D. was a retired A Specialist Machinist with BWXT with more than forty-nine years of service and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He especially loved working in his garden. J.D. was a good man, devoted husband, and best father, his children could have had.
J.D. is survived by two sons, Charles D. West of Amherst and Stephen W. West of Monroe; one daughter, Michelle L. West, also of Monroe; one brother, William “Buzzy” West; two grandchildren, Stephen Michael “Mikey” West and Jessica Lynn West (Blake Padgett); one great-granddaughter, Brinley Lynn Padgett and his beloved dog, Miss Sadie Anne.
A funeral service to celebrate J.D.’s life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2022, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with The Rev. Tim Scott of Luray, officiating. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 16, will follow in Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2022, at the funeral home.
