Born on January 24, 1927 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Harry Stevenson Campbell and the late Sinnie Campbell. John served our country in the United States Navy during WWII and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 33 years of service. John enjoyed playing golf and was an active member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Creammer; sisters, Katherine Morcom and Ruth Hamilton; and brother, Harry Campbell.
John is survived by his wife, Virginia Campbell; sons, Ernest Campbell and wife Joan and John Campbell and wife Gilda; daughter, Barbara Campbell and husband Richard; son-in-law, JD Creammer; 20 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Campbell and Christine Campbell; and numerous other family members.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and staff at Centra Hospice for their compassionate care and support during John’s illness.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor J.D. Surbaugh officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
