James Thornton Angus
March 13, 1939 – February 2, 2022

James Thornton Angus, 82, of Madison Heights, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2022 at Lynchburg General Hospital. For fifty-eight years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Shirley Spence Angus.
Born March 13, 1939 in Amherst County, he was the son of the late Henry Bargamin Angus and Ruby Stratton Angus and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Henry S. Angus, Davis R. Angus; and Odell Angus; two sisters, Mary E. McGuire and, Roselle R. Martin, and one great grandchild, Caden Michael Angus. Mr. Angus was a retired foreman and supervisor with Babcock & Wilcox.
Mr. Angus is survived by three sons, Gary W. Angus and wife Kim of Madison Heights, Larry D. Angus of Amherst , and James E. “Jimmy” Angus and wife Pat of Madison Heights; one daughter, Faith A. Gilley and husband Cliff of Waikoloa, HI; two sisters, Dean Carwile and husband Berkley of Madison Heights and Beverly A. Wright and husband Sammy of Piney River; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Angus’ life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Sam Stump officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2022 at the funeral home and other times at his home.
