He was born in Spring Hope, NC to the late Buddy and Eula Finch on November 30, 1934. After graduating high school, he worked in the Newport News Shipyard. While there he attended a revival meeting at Central Baptist Church and gave his heart and life to Jesus Christ. After taking courses from Baptist Bible College, Springfield, MO. he felt God’s calling to preach His Word so others could be saved. In 1957, he started his first church, Calvary Baptist Church, in Greenville, NC. In 1960, he moved to Madison Heights and organized Grace Baptist Church. Later he moved to Charleston WV and pastored Central Baptist Church. In 1985, he returned to Madison Heights and pastored Lighthouse Baptist Church until his stroke in 2006.
He was married to his wife Doris Anderson Finch for 63 years and had three daughters, Pamela Jeffers and husband, the Rev. Dan Jeffers of St. Petersburg, FL, Lisa Simpson and husband, the Rev. Andy Simpson, missionaries to Taiwan, and Jackie Forbus and husband the Rev. Carey Forbus of Madison Heights, VA; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one sister, Mary Cooper of Spring Hope, NC. Rev. Finch was preceded in death by five brothers.
A service to celebrate Rev. Finch’s life will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Lighthouse Baptist Church with the Rev. Carey Forbus, the Rev. Andy Simpson, and the Rev. Dan Jeffers officiating. Interment will follow at Meade Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel and also Sunday, for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
