Gail Josephine (Griffith) Simms, 74, departed this life on September 21, 2023 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born April 20th, 1949 in Lynchburg. She was the daughter of Junior Ferrell Griffith and Mary Deal Lee. Gail was the loving and devoted wife of the late Ronald William Simms.
Gail is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her brother, Richard Griffith. Gail leaves behind all the memories and strong love for her son, David Todd Simms and grandchildren: Madison Simms and Dylan Simms. She also leaves her memories and love to her step brother, Henry Lee, her best friend, Shelby Penn, her life-long friend, Bill White, and other special relatives and friends.
Gail lived her life helping others. She was very active in volunteering to help make the world a better place. She played a big part in preparing the local Apple Festival at Amherst County High School. She was a dedicated member of the Amherst Association For Family and Community Education. She was also a dedicated member of Christ Community Church and Union Christian Church. Gail spent some time as a substitute teacher and worked with hospice to assist those with comfort in their time of need.
Gail’s caring heart extended out even further when it came to loving and spoiling her grandchildren, she was so proud of both of them. Gail also had a deep love for animals and not only cared for her own animals, but took in stray animals, gave them names, and they became family to her too. Gail loved to go to Dudley’s restaurant and would be there as much as possible. She would tell stories to everyone she would meet and share in conversations with all the locals that would come; she never knew a stranger. She became a faithful viewer of General Hospital on TV and would always sit down with a cup of tea and watch the show.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Christ Community Church of Madison Heights on September 27, 2023 at 6 pm with a one hour prior visitation starting at 5 pm. Rev. Glen Shelton is officiating the service.
Whitten Monelison Chapel is assisting the family.
