Born on October 12, 1934 in Clifford, he was the son of the late Steven Edward Campbell and Mamie Estell Campbell. Dick served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. From 1969 to 1996 he worked as a contractor with George E. Jones and Sons in Amherst. Upon retiring in 1996, he went into business with his son, Frankie and started C&C Construction Company, where he worked until 2015. Dick was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was the leader of the singing group The Echo from the church. He will be remembered by his family as a little man with a big heart and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Bridgette Diane Campbell and siblings, Edward T. Campbell, Bland Lee Campbell, Charlotte Saunders, James Edward “Jim” Campbell, Henry Ford Campbell, Thelma C. Mays, Steven Edward Campbell, Jr., Minor Payne Campbell, and Eva C. Coffey.
Dick is survived by his wife Beatrice Campbell; daughter, Cynthia G. Wright and husband Wade; sons, Franklin D. Campbell, Jr. and wife Laura and Jonathan B. Campbell; ten grandchildren, Kaity Campbell, Makayla Campbell, Mandy Mays, Joey Campbell, Samantha Kidd, Kaleigh Massie, TJ Wright, Alex Wright, Aaron Wright, and Andrew Wright; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Charlie Walker Campbell and wife Joyce; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tina and Leighann at Centra Hospice for their wonderful care and support during Dick's illness.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Clifford Baptist Church with Reverend Charlie Walker Campbell officiating and assisted by Reverend Dave Peters. Interment will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
