

Born January 5, 1921 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Elmer Hill Loving, Sr. and the late Helen Coffey Loving and was also preceded in death by a brother, Robley Loving and two brothers-in-law, Garland Huffman and Thomas Carroll. He was retired from Lynchburg Foundry with forty-two years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Loving was a P.O.W. during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. As a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps., the Medal of Honor is the only medal above this. He was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Loving is survived by a daughter, Helen Elizabeth (Beth) Nelsen and husband Lou of Polk City, FL; two sons, Elmer H. (Sandy) Loving, III and wife Becky of Williamsburg and Thomas Gregory (Greg) Loving and wife Jenny of Plymouth, IN; four sisters, Dorothy L. Stinnett, Shirley L. Huffman, Vera L. Campbell and husband Ed, all of Madison Heights and Helen L. Carroll of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Benjamin Loving, Max Loving and wife Jamie, Rodney Loving and wife Ashley, Travis Loving and his fiancée Madison Read, and Jaclyn Williams and husband Mackenzie and two great-grandchildren, Jack Loving and Carter Loving.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2015 at Northminster Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jeff Porter officiating. Interment with military honors by the Roanoke National Guard Honors Team will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from5-7 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Whitten Monelison Chapel, 3966 South Amherst Highway, Madison Heights.
