Born August 9, 1916, at Montebello in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late John Ira and Bertha Alice Donald Robertson. Edna married and raised her children in Lovingston and after the passing of her first husband she met and married Ira Tom Perry. They moved to Madison Heights where they enjoyed 50 wonderful years together. After declining health, Edna & Tom moved to Wilson, NC and they lived with her youngest daughter, Sandra Shirley.
Edna is survived by five children, James Wood and wife Leithia, Janice Tyree and husband Buck, both of Madison Heights, Ray Wood and wife Mary of Shipman, Kenneth Wood and wife Pat of Rio Rancho, NM, and Sandra Shirley of Wilson, NC. She was very proud of her twelve grandchildren and her fourteen great-grandchildren.
Edna was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, and in her earlier years loved to travel. A talented seamstress, she made most of her children’s clothes when they were younger. She also was a gifted quilt-maker and her dozens of beautiful heirloom quilts will be cherished by her family and friends. She also loved fashion and was always seen with a coordinating outfit & matching jewelry, painted fingernails, and her hair fixed “just right”. Above all else, Edna loved her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 25, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Todd Blake and the Rev. David Christian officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery in Lovingston where she was a lifelong member.
