Born in Monroe Virginia, she was one of four siblings born to James Edward and Helen Moore Martin.
Edith grew up being adventurous and excited about life. Her passion for learning and reading was a large part of her life. She loved to cook and prepare meals and really enjoyed serving them to her family. Another of her favorite passions was traveling the world and seeing the sites. She would find herself visiting Hawaii and also Canada and enjoying the sites and scenery. Edith also was a member of Elon Baptist Church. She loved to serve at her church and did so for over fifty years. Edith also served as an accountant at the Central Virginia Training Center until her retirement.
Edith leaves her love and memories behind for her son, David M. Foster, her niece, Judith McCartney,and her nephews, Mike Saunders, Robert E. Alcock, and James Alcock. She also leaves behind a special friend, Freida Gillispie, who was a valuable support to her during these past years.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Also, she was preceded by her sisters, Elenora Saunders, Agnes Alcock and Mary Martin as well as a nephew, Ronald Saunders.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights Virginia. A graveside service will be held at Elon Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 11 am with Pastors Cody Bingham and Steve Tyree officiating.
