Douglas W. Bolling, Sr., 75, of Madison Heights passed away from this life to his home in Glory with the Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Doug had an eleven year battle with the dreadful Parkinson’s disease and twenty-eight years with Ischemic heart disease, both attributed to contact with Agent Orange while proudly serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Born September 25, 1943, son of the late Page W. Bolling (Ida) and Jane Ashley Bolling. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Charlene Peters Bolling, having shared a Blessed Marriage of 55 years, and his beloved, devoted and caring son, Douglas W. Bolling, Jr. and special daughter-in-law, Lorrie Bolling of Madison Heights. Also survived by his beloved brother, Joseph E. Bolling (Linda) of Colorado Springs, CO and sister Kimberly Brooks (Danny) of Rustburg; sister-cousin, Nancy Bolling Hudson (Rodney) who was by his side when he passed, and devoted cousin, Judith Stevens of Lakewood, CA; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug enjoyed a life time working in the home improvement field including manufacturing, installing and selling products. He was of the Baptist faith and followed the will of God. Doug was gifted with a generous kind spirit, contagious smile and love for everyone including furry animals and birds. He loved his Tom kitty who misses him. Doug had a passion for music and attended all Friday Cheers for 19 years.
The family appreciates and would like to thank his devoted caregivers including special niece, Frances Patton (Marty and son Ryan), in-laws, Jimmy and Judy Trent Peters, F.E. “Inkey” and Judy Tomlin Peters and many others. The family also wishes to thank the awesome and wonderful staff at Runk & Pratt Memory Center-Forest for the faithful care and service provided Doug during his stay and also the staff of Centra Hospice-Guggenheimer during his final days.
A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Terry Wornstaff of Oakdale Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2019, at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, Doug would prefer you adopt a pet from the Amherst County Humane Society or make a donation for animal care, or donate to the Monelison Rescue Squad or Fire Department for their continued and dedicated service to our community.
