Born in Bedford County, March 4, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John W. Arrington, Jr. and Reaver Gillispie Arrington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Otis Sandifer; two sons, Eugene Otis Sandifer, Jr. and Brian Kelly “Moe” Sandifer; three brothers, Bob Arrington, Dennie Arrington and Charles “Boots” Arrington and one sister, Peggy Tyree.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and that was an integral part of her being. She had a special place in her heart for children and cared for children for many years. Dorothy’s greatest joy was in observing the growth and development of her own children, as well as those she cared for. With a gentle and caring spirit, Dorothy embodied the essence of motherhood. She attended New Beginnings Tabernacle.
She is survived by two sons, Darrell Sandifer and his wife Wanda and Greg Sandifer and his wife JoAnn; one brother, Pete Arrington (Dot); one sister, Iris Little; five grandchildren, Dara Cranney (Ryan), Layney Skinner (Joseph), Brett Sandifer, Kinsley Cox (Brandon) and Alex Sandifer; seven great grandchildren, Hadley Cranney, Grayson Skinner, Gracie Sandifer, Clara Cox, Asher Cox, Bear Sandifer and Presley Whitten; her daughter-in-law, Becky Gowen; and two sisters-in-law, Bea Arrington and Darilla Rosser and brother-in-law, Butch Tyree.
A service celebrating her life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2023 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Sam Stump officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
