Born April 22, 1933, in Lynchburg, Barbara was the daughter of the late Herman Elwood Bryant and Nanny Lee Tyree Bryant. In addition, Barbara was preceded in death by her eldest son, David Lee Massie.
Barbara, a proud graduate of E.C. Glass High School, was a warm-hearted and devoted individual. Known for her exceptional care for both family and friends, she lovingly supported her late husband until his passing in 2013. Barbara dedicated herself to raising her four children, becoming a beloved mother and nurturing caregiver. Her sense of style and joy in dressing up were well-known, and she took great pleasure in looking her best. Above all, Barbara cherished her family and those she held dear.
Those left to cherish Barbara’s memory include her children Randy Massie of Concord, her twins Tommy Massie and his wife Sally Jo of Pleasant View, Debbie Higginbotham and her husband Jeff of Gladstone; her daughter-in-law Janet Dolan of Brookneal; her grandchildren, Amy Massie Jennings and her husband Jason, Laurie Massie Moody and her husband Terry, Brooke Massie, Kelly Higginbotham; her great-grandchildren Hannah Jennings and the twins Kole and Kylee Moody.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Elon Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Steve Tyree and Pastor Cody Bingham. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at the church cemetery.
