She was the wife of the late James Raleigh Cooke, Sr.
Born on January 6, 1925 in Edgecombe County, NC she was the daughter of the late Luther Linwood and Ida Mae Pridgen.
Mrs. Cooke was a member of Madison Heights Baptist Church and a sister of the Rebecca Lodge. She loved to travel with her husband and listen to music. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a cherished grandmother.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Cooke; her granddaughter, Julie Ann Garbee; her sister, Ophelia Worrell; and her brothers, George Pridgen and Robert Pridgen.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, James Raleigh Cooke, Jr. and his wife Linda, Willie L. Cooke and his wife Vickie, Pamela Cheryl Cooke and her husband Martin Lawson, Daniel Bradford Cooke and his wife Shelly, Gilbert Craig Cooke and his wife Betty, and Jeffrey Lyle Cooke; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; her brother Alton Pridgen and wife Virginia; her sister-in-law, Hilda Pridgen; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members; and a host of friends, including Rebecca Sisters Kathreen Dix and Ethel Smith. Annie Mae never met a stranger who was not embraced as a family member
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Madison Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Todd Blake officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at any time at Annie Mae’s residence, 390 Hilltop Dr., Madison Heights.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Madison Heights Baptist Church, 329 Main Street, Madison Heights, VA 24572.
