Edward George Schillag, a proud Marine and Vietnam Veteran passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 78. Born in Detroit, Michigan on March 17, 1946, Edward dedicated four years of his life serving his country in the United States Marine Corp., where he was part of a four man team and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. His service in Vietnam was a testament to his courage and commitment to his country.
After his military service, Edward continued to live a life full of passion and dedication. He was the rock of the family, always there to support and guide them with kindness and generosity. Edward's love for travel took him to many places, but his greatest joy was always being with his family, especially the children, whom he adored.
In his later years, Edward found pleasure in quieter activities. He was an avid reader and enjoyed solving puzzles, a hobby that reflected his sharp mind. As technology advanced, Edward adapted and began to enjoy games on his phone, always eager to learn something new.
Edward was a beloved husband for the past 10 years to Christina Schillag; loving father to Shannon (the late Russ) Hurt and Scott (Deanna) Schillag; Dearest Grandpa to Sydney, Ashley, Krysten, Justen, Douglas and DJ; Cherished brother to the late James (Patricia) Schillag; Wonderful Uncle to Bonnie Schillag, Albert Schillag, Linda Schillag (Deceased), Robert Clark, Kelly Dunnigan, Christopher Clark, Jason Majewski, Paul Majewski, Timothy Clark, Dawn Patton, Shelby Sheehan and Mary Sheehan; Great Uncle to Mya, Zachary,Tristan, Amber, Gabby and Cameron; Great, Great Uncle to London and Maverick.
A visitation for Edward will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Edward Swanson & Son Funeral Home, 30351 Dequindre Rd., Madison Heights, MI 48071.
Friday, August 30, 2024, Edward will be in-state at 9:00 AM up until the time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM at St. Rene Groupil Catholic Parish, 35955 Ryan Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48310.
Immediately following the Funeral Mass, Edward will be laid to rest with Military Honors at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, 621 W. Long Lake Rd, Troy MI 48098 alongside his late wife of 35 years Ruth Schillag.
