Streeter Roy Seidell, 66, of Madison, CT, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 12th, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 4th, 1949 to John E. Seidell and the late Leatrice Seidell (nee Streeter), he was raised along with his identical twin brother and younger sister in Bloomfield, CT. For 43 wonderful years he was the devoted husband of Susan Ellen Seidell (nee O’Connor), whom he met while attending Southern Connecticut State University. He received his MSW at The University of Connecticut, his 6th year in administration at SCSU and his ABD from Fordham University. His professional life was spent in the service of others, as a social worker and therapist, helping thousands of disadvantaged children at Highland Heights (New Haven), The Children’s Center (Hamden) and New Hope Manner (Manchester). He was an enthusiastic fan of the arts, painting and playing music in his spare time, and a begrudging skier and hiker when family vacations demanded. His friends and family will always remember him for his humor, his warmth, his kindness and his - let’s call it “unique” - sense of stye. He is survived by his loving son, Streeter John, his wife Vanessa Seidell (nee Bone) and their soon-to-be child, and his devoted daughter, Heidi. In addition to his children, he will be remembered by his father, John E. Seidell, as well as his family members: John and Donna Seidell, Leatrice and Edwin Westdal, Sheila and Robert Cashel, Michael and MaryAnn Fehr, and John O’Connor Jr.; as well his many nieces and nephews: Shannon and Tim Gearon, Nathan and Christine Seidell, Edwin and Kelly Westdal, Leatrice and Jesse Embley, Taylor Seidell, John O’Connor III, Courtney Cashel and Connor Cashel.
The Seidell family would like to thank the dedicated staff members at Gaylord Rehabilitation Center, Yale New Haven Hospital, The Madison House and Hospice for their wonderful care. They would also like to thank their friends, family and neighbors for their many acts of kindness through this difficult year.
A wake will be held on Friday, March 18th from 4 - 8PM at Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2PM on Sunday, March 20th, at Mercy By The Sea, 167 Neck Road, Madison, CT. All are welcome.
