Maria Cristina (Perez) Horton, age 84, of Madison passed away after a short illness on January 20, 2015 surrounded by her family,at CT Hospice in Branford. She was the Cherished and beloved wife of Donald Horton. Maria was born in Catania, Sicily, Italy, and the daughter of the late Oreste and Lucia (Cremona) Perez. Maria resided in Madison, CT for 46 years and had graduated from the University of Catania with a magna cum laude doctorate in Chemistry. She was employed by Cyanimid Italy for 9 years as a quality control supervisor. Upon marrying her husband she moved to the United States and became a homemaker and raised her children. Maria was well known in the community, and a parishioner of St Margaret, she will be sadly missed. Besides her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Horton Bernaiche and Melissa Pantalena and her husband Daniel, all of Southington. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who were the love of her life, Elsie Cristina Bernaiche, Deven Rae Bernaiche, and Tressa Maria Pantalena. She was predeceased by a sister Lida Perez.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at St Margaret Church at 11 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
