Margaret M. (Palumbo) Esposito, age 58, beloved mother, wife, sister and celebrated financial advisor, went to her eternal rest on December 20th, at her home in Killingworth, CT surrounded by her family. Her life was taken by metastatic breast cancer that had spread to her brain.
Born on March 26, 1964, she was the 11th child and 7th daughter of the late Dr. Victor A. and Mary (Daly) Palumbo of Fall River, MA, where Margaret was born and raised. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1982, she went on to UMASS Amherst, where she met her husband, Thomas Esposito.
In her career, as well as in her personal life, she was a force of nature. She spent over than 30 years in the financial world, making a mark for herself in the “boys club,” rising through the ranks while serving her clients well. After 25 years at Merrill Lynch and achieving Resident Director, she reluctantly retired due to her illness. She loved her work as evidenced by her refusal to abandon her clients during her eight years of cancer treatment.
She brought the same degree of passion and attention to detail restoring and improving their antique colonial house and gardens where she and Tom raised their daughters Elizabeth and Anna Esposito, of which she was most proud and who held the utmost space in her heart.
She loved early American history, and she loved being surrounded by family and friends so it stands to reason her home was her way of sharing those loves.
The pleasures in life brought her great joy. Combining her nostalgic heart, generous nature, competitive spirit and her love of holidays and traditions gave birth to the eagerly anticipated annual Christmas party and Cooking Competition. She became the master of creating an atmosphere that was the stuff of legends and was the highlight of every guests’ holiday season.
Each summer, she planned family trips to the beaches of Southeastern, MA to enjoy the sun and surf. She was even known to host a family reunion or two. The countless memories she created are priceless and now offer solace to her family and friends.
In addition to her husband of 32 years and her daughters, she is survived by her 10 siblings, Martha Palumbo, James Palumbo, Laura Palumbo-Hanson, Mary Palumbo, Dominic Palumbo, Catherine O’Donnell, Elizabeth Palumbo, Ann Maloney, Richard Palumbo, and Victor Palumbo, as well as their spouses and many, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, friends, and colleagues.
A wake will be held on Thursday December 22nd from 4-7pm at Swan Memorial Funeral Home in Madison, CT. The following day, a funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Madison CT. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
