Adored mother and longtime resident of both New Haven and Madison, Jane Ferguson sadly passed away on October 1, 2023 at the age of 76. Jane was raised in Groton CT by her parents Eleanor and Arthur and attended St. Bernards High School. She was an avid reader from a young age and pursued a degree in education at Southern Connecticut State University. She spent over twenty years as an early education teacher at West Hills Elementary school and obtained her Masters in education, all while working and raising her three children, Emily, Amy and Matthew.
Jane was a voracious reader, a gardener, a political enthusiast, a baker, a bird lover, a passionate theater-goer, a devoted fan of Korean pop culture and an incredibly devoted grandmother. She was funny, sweet and unendingly strong- full of Irish grit.
She leaves behind her children, her son-in-laws Jim Pepin and Kevin Scott, her grandsons Finn, Jude, Noel and Liam, and her sister Joyce Jervis of Groton. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends who she loved very much. Wherever Jane is now, her children know that she was greeted with a sign that reads “characters welcome” because she truly was a character and that was her favorite saying about her family.
Visiting hours will be held on October 14th from 3pm to 5pm at Swan Funeral home in Madison. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to www.stjude.org in honor of the countless hours she spent supporting her grandson Finn through cancer.
