Harold D. Phillips of Madison, CT age 87 passed away peacefully on Friday August 19, 2022, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was married to his beloved wife Sylvia Pallenberg Phillips for 65 years. He was born in Rockingham, NC on December 3, 1934. One of six children, he was born into the loving home of Sipp W. Phillips and Rosa Belle Johnson Phillips. He spent 30 years in the United States Navy and retired in 1979. Harold served two tours in Vietnam, was a sky Marshall and flew with the Blue Angels as a photographer. Following his time in the Navy, Harold spent 40 plus years as the sports photographer in Madison. You could find him at every Daniel Hand High School football game on the side lines doing what he loved best. He was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Madison Little League baseball for all his years of photographing the kids of Madison. His love of Golf was another passion he had and enjoyed golfing with his grandsons and friends of the Madison Country Club. The pride and joy of his life was his family, especially spending time with his grandsons and his puppy Watson.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, S.W. and Rosa Belle J. Phillips, Mother-in-law, Susan Lupone Pallenberg, his sister, Dorothy (Bill) Williams, brothers, Carl Phillips, Paul Phillips, Richard Phillips, niece, Susan Williams, and nephew Gregory Pallenberg.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 65 years, Sylvia Phillips, Son, Stephen Phillips of Marshville, NC, two daughters, Pamela Edwards, of Marshville, NC and Karen Buck of Madison CT; grandsons, Jonathan (Martine) Buck of Madison and Justin (Natalie) Buck of Portland CT and Granddaughter Jessica (Tristan) Edwards of Marshville NC; Great Grandson, Jonathan Buck Jr, brother, Jim (Lovell) Phillips of Leland, NC; sisters-in-law, Evonne Phillips of Leland, Minnie Phillips of Rockingham NC, Jane Stamler of Clinton CT; Brother-in-law, Carvin (Renee) Pallenberg of Madison and three nieces, five nephews, and numerous other family members and friends.
Calling hours will be Thursday August 25th, at the Swan Funeral Home, 825 Boston Post Road, Madison CT from 4-7pm. A full military service will be held the next day, Friday August 26, 2022, at 11am at West Cemetery, Boston Post Road Madison.
