David Starkey, 75, of Madison, CT passed away peacefully on the morning of September 16, 2021. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on April 17, 1946, he was the son of the late Stillman in Elec A. Starkey and Kathleen (Hayes) Starkey.
David earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and worked as a field engineer for Westinghouse (Northrup Grumman) for over thirty years, finishing his career with five years of employment at Electric Boat.
David married the love of his life, Carol (Murphy) Starkey on October 23, 1971, and they enjoyed almost fifty long years raising a family and making a home together. Fifteen years ago, they purchased a vacation home in Ludlow, Vermont, where David enjoyed relaxing with friends and family, skiing, and playing golf. For ten years, he also enjoyed working part time as an Okemo lift attendant, interacting with guests and especially with the children.
Above all else, David found his joy being a husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren, Tricia, JD, Thomas, and Diggy were the light of his life and he loved working on household projects with them and cooking breakfast for them whenever possible.
David will be greatly missed by his wife and sons, Matt Starkey and wife Amy (Fitzgerald) Starkey of Madison, CT and Jason Starkey and partner Judith Dill of Clinton, CT. Although sadly his oldest brother Ward is deceased, he is survived by his brother Don Starkey of Northboro, MA as well as six nieces and nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews, and four great-great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, September 24 at Swan Funeral Home, located at 825 Boston Post Rd, Madison, CT. A graveside service will be held at 11 am at West Cemetery, Madison, CT. In lieu of flowers, David’s family asks that donations be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
