Charles Ernest Kyttle

Charles “Charlie or Chaz” Ernest Kyttle of Madison, CT passed on January 9, 2021 following complications with a blood infection, coronavirus, and a decade long battle with congestive heart failure. He is survived by his four beloved children, his son, Christopher William Kyttle and three daughters Jennifer Ann Kyttle, Corey Elizabeth Kyttle, and Tracy Alice Kyttle and one grandson, Trey Michael Lazauskas.

Charlie was a devoted member of the shoreline community having lived all 73 years of his life in Madison and Clinton, Connecticut. Charlie attended Madison Public Schools and graduated from Daniel Hand High School in 1965 before enlisting as an aircraft mechanic at the Eglin Air Force Base in western, Florida. After returning from the service Charlie opened Kyttle’s Chevron at 646 Boston Post Road in downtown Madison and served as a well respected auto mechanic for all of his career. He invested many years in the Madison Volunteer Fire Department, serving as First Lieutenant between 1984-1986. In the winter months Charlie could be found plowing snow from Main Street sidewalks late at night in his Jeep or Toyota Tacoma and of course, doing a few donuts in the CVS parking lot when no one was looking. Only second to the love for his children was Charlie’s adoration for playing Blues music. Notoriously, he frequented coffee shops along the shoreline or any other small gig permitting him to indulge in his most cherished hobby - playing his red Eric Clapton Fender Stratocaster guitar. Charlie loved the people, history, and the communities that shaped him and we have all been beneficiaries of his humor, loyalty, and relentless work ethic. Charlie leaves behind joyous memories with his mentor, Mr. Ade Bassett and his extended family, cousins Ralph Kyttle and Judy (Kyttle) Daricek, and his Aunt Mary (Kyttle) Reider. Charlie, an only child, will be buried next to his cherished mother Alma Alice (Vanderhoff) Allen and late father, Raymond E. Kyttle in Madison’s West Cemetery on Boston Post Road.
