William Frank “Buck” White, Jr., 89, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, November 3, 2013 in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. Entombment will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 5:00Pm to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. White was born in Montgomery, AL to the late Lois Cox White and William Frank White, Sr. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II. Mr. White served in the European Theatre, assigned to the 492nd Bomb Group, 859th Bomb Squadron of the 8th Air Force. He served as Armor Gunner on the B-24 Liberator. From England he was transferred to Italy and the 15th Air Force. In all he flew 50 missions in Europe and received the Four Oak Leaf Cluster Medal. Returning home to Macon, Georgia, after the war, he went to work with Georgia Power Company, where he retired after 43 years as Macon Division Meter Superintendant in 1989. He was an avid fan of baseball and served in many capacities as a player, umpire, coach and manager. He served for years as Team Manager and Board member at South Macon Boys Baseball. Mr. White also served on the Board of Directors at Windsor Academy.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Edna Hancock White and a brother, Bibb Graves White, Sr.
Mr. White is survived by his daughter: Rhonda W. (Richard) Merchant of Lizella; son: William “Chuck” F. (Donna) White, III of Roberta; three grandchildren: Amethyst M. (Carlos) Messina, Whitney W. (Chan) Metts and Britney W. (Edward) Holloway and two great-grandsons: Sebastian M. Messina and Thomas William Holloway.
