William Frederick “Freddie” Long, Sr., 81, died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4:00pm until 6:00pm Sunday night at the funeral home. Fred was born in Macon, Georgia and had lived in Macon 61 years. He was the son of the late Nell R. Bell and Eldon Long and was preceded in death by his brother, Emmett (Red) Long and sister, Zanda Osborne. Fred was employed with the Macon Fire Department for 15 years and retired from UPS as Safety Director. He served in the United States Marines, was a member of the Al Sihah Shrine Temple, and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gwen D. Long of Macon; children, Billy Long of Macon, Rene (Mike) Connor of Macon, Robin (Jim) Ebert of Gainesville and Barry (Melanie) Long of Cochran; grandchildren, Sidney (Trey) Sears, and Sandy Greene of Gainesville, Teresa (Jordy) Gray, and BJ Long of Cochran, Hayley Connor of Asheville, NC; great grandchildren, Brooklynn Sears of Gainesville and Karsyn Gray of Cochran; several nieces; sisters-in-law, Vivian (Jimmy) Carter and Faye Layman; and beloved dog, Red.
