Walter Alvis “Bill” Newman, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 15, 2014. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Gibbs and Rev. Norman Carter officiating. The family will meet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church, 939 Wesleyan Drive, Macon GA 31210.
Mr. Newman was born in Cochran, Georgia to the late Julius O. and Bessie T. Newman. He was retired from the Georgia National Guard and Robins Air Force Base. Bill was a member of Wesleyan Drive Baptist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Woodall Newman of Juliette, two children; Walter A. “Al” (Shelia) Newman, Jr. of Forsyth, Barry Newman of Forsyth, three grandchildren, Sheila Hocog, Melissa Evans and Betsy Weirs and six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and Dean Grimsley almost like a sister.
