Walter was born August 17, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Walter P. and Stella M. Suski Borowski. He resided in Philadelphia until July 1942 when he joined the Army Air Corp.
Walter served his country during WWII as an Operations Officer with the 8th Air Force under Colonel W. I. Williams. He served in Europe arriving December 1943 via the Queen Elizabeth in Firth of Forth, Scotland and departing from Cherbourg, France in September 1945 after time in Nuremberg, Germany. On June 13, 1944, with other Airmen, he landed via LST on Omaha Beach near Cherbourg, France. Returning to the USA, Walter met and married his wartime correspondent, Flora Quillen of Greenup, Kentucky on November 3, 1945. They resided in Philadelphia until they moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1952. He began his Civil Service career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. In 1962 he transferred to Warner Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia where he retired in 1983 as a Procurement Officer.
Walter is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Flora Quillen Borowski and by his sister, Violet Borowski Costello.
Survivors include his son, W. David (Margaret) Borowski of Ocoee, Florida, his daughter, Kathryn (William) Sanders of Macon, Georgia, grandchildren Ann (Christian) Slade of Winter Garden, Florida, Paul D Borowski of Ocoee, Florida, Walter H Sanders of Macon, Georgia, and twin great-grandchildren Nathaniel and Katherine Slade of Winter Garden, Florida.
The family will receive friends following a Rosary service at 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 28 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street in Macon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29 at St Joseph Catholic Church, Macon, GA. Following visitation at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup, Kentucky, graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 2 at the D. C. Quillen Family Cemetery in South Shore, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given to either St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 Poplar St, Macon, GA 31201 or Blair House Senior Living “Employees Christmas Fund”, 684 Arlington Pl, Macon, GA 31201.
