Tommy Young Edwards, 68, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at his residence. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Loran Smith will officiate. The family will meet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and while flowers are accepted, they suggest that those who wish make memorial contributions to Lizella United Methodist Church, 2920 S. Lizella Road, Lizella, GA 31052.
Mr. Edwards, son of the late Thurston Crawford and Otha Ray Edwards, was born in Turner County and had lived in Macon most of his life. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Henderson. Mr. Edwards was a graduate of Willingham High School “Class of 1960” and was involved in planning for their fiftieth reunion. Mr. Edwards was retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company after forty three years of service and was a member of Lizella United Methodist Church, The Joy Sunday School Class and the Men’s Club. He was a member of the “Camp Candy Hunting Club”, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and of the Lizella Lizards.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by those he loved the most, his wife of 47 years, Gayle Collins Edwards of Lizella, his two sons, Todd Edwards of Lizella, and Chad (Sharon) Edwards of Lizella, four grandchildren, Abbie and Ethan Edwards of Lizella, Kaleigh and Madison Edwards of Valdosta, sister-in-law, Margaret Henderson of Warner Robins, niece, Lisa Weaver of Fort Valley and nephew, Danny Henderson of Warner Robins.
Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery has charge of arrangements.
