MACON – Sylvia Maxine Crooms, 75, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, January 17, 2011 after a long and courageous battle against lung cancer. Family and friends were by her side. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Avenue. A private burial will be held in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Bishop Mark Weathers and Chaplain Helen Willoughby will officiate. The family will meet friends from 1 p.m. to service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Crooms was born in Macon, GA and was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late John M. Wade and Annie Laurie Wade. She was preceded in death by her daughter Stephanie Maxine Stuart and her brother Frederick E. Wade.
Mrs. Crooms attended Lanier Junior High for Girls, Miller High and was a graduate of Georgia-Alabama Business School. For twenty-five years she worked as manager and state licensed dispensing optician for Pearle Vision Center alongside her husband and was a member of several optical association. She was a long standing member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over forty-three years. It was her wish that sorority members sit with the family during the service.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of forty-four years, Dr. James Morton Crooms, Sr.; her sons who were the love of her life, Gary Stuart, Atlanta and Kem Stuart and daughter-in-law, Barbara of Macon; her stepchildren, James M. (Nancy) Crooms, Jr., Arlette (Daniel) Mairesse and Michale Crooms; many cousins; her dog, Nicky; her cats, Tidbit and Misty. She had an enormous love for animals and gave many a home.
The family would like to especially thank her caregivers Selena Franklin and Dot Presswood for the thoughtful and loving care they provided, the nurses and staff of Evercare Hospice and the Cancer Center of Central Georgia, Dr. Kenneth Deaton and staff.
