Susie Evelyn Whitfield Ussery, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 7, 2023. A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s @ Macon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Blankenship officiating. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN, 38105.
Sue was born in Worth County, Georgia to the late Clifton Paul Whitfield and Annie Mae Baxley Whitfield. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 ½ years and her brother James Clifford Whitfield. She graduated from Milan High School in 1953 and moved to Macon shortly after graduation. In Macon she took a job as secretary for Birdsey Flour and Feed Mills where she met Gene Ussery who would become her husband in October 1954. Sue retired from Macy’s after twenty years of service. She was a longtime member of Pine Forest Baptist Church, She enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren, gardening with Gene, cooking for family gatherings, and watching the Atlanta Braves. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Larry (Debora) Ussery of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Paula (Steve) Bennett of Macon, Greg (Brandi) Ussery of Macon, grandchildren, Jonathan (Jennifer) Ussery of Jacksonville, Florida, Christopher (Angela) Ussery of Surprise, Arizona, Benjamin Bennett of Paris, France, Andrew (Morgan) Bennett of Senoia, Georgia, Jessica (Jake) Marlin of Thompson Station, Tennessee, Elizabeth (Shannon) Burgess of Thompson Station, Tennessee, Addison Ruble of Alexandria, Virginia, Bailey Ruble of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, great grandchildren, Triston Cannon, Dawson Burgess, Emery Burgess, Keeley Williams, Kendyl Williams, Gracie Marlin, Josie Marlin, Nolan Bennett and her sisters, Carolyn Jolly of Sumner, Georgia and Mollie Hamby of Albany, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
