MACON - Roger Olan "R.O." Shepard, Jr. 82 passed away October 3, 2011 with his family at his side in Macon, GA. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. October 6, in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Watson officiating. The family will receive friends at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home beginning at 1 p.m. to service time at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Shirley Hills Baptist Church, Building Fund, 615 Corder Road, Warner Robins GA 31088 or First Baptist Church, 95 W. Morse St., Forsyth GA 31029.
Born in Macon, GA in 1928, he was the son of the late Roger Olan Shepard, Sr. and Myrtle Whitfield Shepard. He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Smith Shepard. -He served in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. -Mr. Shepard grew up in Macon, later going on to graduate from Georgia Military College and the University of South Carolina in Columbia S.C, in 1957 with a B.A. degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he went to work for Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company in Jacksonville, FL., retiring as Vice President. He was a member of Mikado Baptist Church in Macon, Ga. He was active for many years in the Jacksonville Bulldog Club, one of the largest Georgia Bulldog booster clubs in the country. After retirement, Roger and Gloria moved to St. Augustine in 1994 to enjoy the beach and playing Bridge with their friends. Those who knew and worked with him respected him for his generous spirit and his wonderful sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by his loving family.
-Survivors include his sisters, Miriam (Robert) Jones, and Sue (Terry) Giddens of Warner Robins, GA; brother, John Terry Shepard (Sheryl), of Townsend, GA.; nieces and nephews, Pamela Sheffield, Joseph Jones, Jennifer Jones, John White, Scott White, Blake Shepard, Brandi Shepard; great nieces and nephews, Trey Sheffield, Kaitlyn Eason, Kane White, Ashley White, Michelle Tomberlin, Aaron Tomberlin; and great-great niece, Serenity Serene. -
