The family will greet friends, beginning at 10 AM, and funeral services will begin at 11AM on Wednesday, July 25, in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Hudgins, of Ingleside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Hester, a native of Macon, GA, served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later went on to work for and retired from the Federal Government (GSA), after thirty years as a Federal Buildings Manager, receiving a Meritorious Service Award.
A gentle man who loved his church and loved the Lord, he often found joy in his gardening and cooking. Mr. Hester was a very generous man and was often praised for his cooking abilities, always preparing food for others in need. He loved his family dearly and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Robert was preceded in death by his five brothers, two sisters, and one beloved 2 and a half year old granddaughter, Kathryn Murray of Tampa, FL.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Linda Baird Hester; daughter, Darla Hester Murray (John); two granddaughters, Shannon Murray Krueger (Robert), and Caitlin Murray; sisters, Sara H. Davis Merriman, Eleanor H. Russell, and Sue H. McKinney (Gary).
