Dr. Patrick “Pat” Wininger Monroe joined his creator on Friday, October 6, 2023. Preceding in death are his first wife, Sharon E. Monroe, his parents Asa and Aline Monroe, his brother Mike Monroe, and several aunts and uncles.
Patrick Wininger Monroe was born in Enid, Oklahoma on June 27, 1941 to the parents of Asa W. Monroe and Aline W. Monroe. Pat was raised on his family farm in Pond Creek, Oklahoma where he worked along side his brother Asa Michael Monroe, tending to the family farm. In 1959, he graduated from Enid High School, and then attended Phillips University where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in science. He then attended the University of Oklahoma where he would obtain his Masters and Doctorate in Public Health. While obtaining his advanced degrees, he became certified in medical technology.
In 1963, Pat married his childhood sweetheart, the late Sharon E. Monroe, and they were married for 52 years until her passing in 2015. Pat was both a devout husband to his wife and was her rock during her illness.
In 1968, Pat’s daughter Shaye was born and in 1971, their son Sayer was born. Throughout the years, Pat was a loving father to them. He instilled responsibility and the philosophy of hard work into his children.
In 1974, Pat moved his family to Middle Georgia, and he began his career as a microbiologist at the Medical Center of Central Georgia where he was a loyal employee for over 25 years until his retirement in 2001. Pat was admired by his co-workers and respected by the medical staff for his breadth of knowledge of microbiology.
Pat was a member of Liberty Church for over 40 years, where he served as an usher, participated in the bell choir, served in several leadership roles, and supported the Upward program. Most of all Pat loved his garden and growing vegetables in the summer.
In 2019, Pat remarried Jacqueline Hamlin, where they spent the following 4 years enjoying each other’s company. Jackie took loving care of Pat during his illness.
Pat is survived by his second wife, Jacqueline Hamlin Monroe; his children, Valery Shaye Michael and son-in law Victor Michael of Macon, Georgia, Sayer Monroe and daughter-in law, Michelle Monroe of Katy, Texas; and his grandchildren, Sarah Michael, Connor Monroe, Katie Monroe, and Caleb Monroe.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Church with Reverend Jack Osburn officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
