Macon, GA—Mrs. Miriam Kennedy Smith, 94, died on Friday, April 19, 2013. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, April 21 at 2 o’clock in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Brian Allen will officiate. The family will receive friends at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 o’clock until service time. The family asks that those who wish, make memorial contributions to The Gideon’s International- Bibb West Crawford Camp, P.O. Box 28665, Macon, GA 31221-8665. Following the graveside service, the family will gather at the residence of Susan Kennedy Davis and Henry Davis, located at 5191 Hwy 41, Bolingbroke, GA.
Mrs. Smith was born in Hagan, GA to the late Francis Clyde and Rosalie Hunt Lupo Smith. She graduated from Claxton High School and was a homemaker, raising not only her children, but being a “mom” to the entire neighborhood. She was a very active member of Tattnall Square Baptist Church, when it was on the Mercer campus. There, she was a Sunday School Teacher, and taught the Jr. High girls for nearly 30 years. Mrs. Smith was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi, and she later relocated her church home to Vineville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Julian P. Kennedy, the father of her children; and her second husband, E.W. Smith. Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by a sister, Rosalind Westmoreland, and her daughter, Karen Kennedy Walker.
Surviving Mrs. Smith are her son, James B. “Jim” (Sandra) Kennedy of Lizella; son in law, C. Wesley Walker, Jr of Macon; step son, Bill Smith of Atlanta; step daughters, Debra (Bill) Marsh of Monticello, Linda Holloway; grandchildren, Lee Anne (Jeff) Cowart of Thomson; Susan Kennedy (Henry) Davis of Bolingbroke; Lori Kennedy North of Kennesaw; Miriam Walker of Atlanta; Wes Walker, III of Bolingbroke; Juliane (William) McCaleb of Atlanta; Macie Walker of Austin, TX; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Doris Lupo Robinson of St. Simon’s; many nieces and nephews; and her special caretakers, Margaret John and her staff at Divine Love.
