MACON – Michael Ray Irby, 56, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at Porterfield Baptist Church with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The Rev. Sam Waldron, the Rev. Joe McDaniel and Pastor Matt Erikson will officiate. The family will meet friends from 5 – 8 p.m., Thursday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. They suggest that those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Georgia Transplant Foundation or to Hospice Care Options.
Mr. Irby, son of the late LeeRoy Bartow Irby and Jerri Lou Emrick Irby, was a lifelong resident of Macon and a graduate of Southwest High School. He served with the U. S. Army 2nd Cavalry and was a logistic analyst/equipment specialist with Robins Air Force Base. He was a great cook, who had perfected grilling a steak. He was also an avid follower and fan of the Allman Brothers Band. Mr. Irby was a Christian who showed his love through many anonymous kind acts and through the Scrambled Eggs for Jesus Outreach Program.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty-four years, Sheri Shelby Irby of Macon; his daughter, Jerri Rae Irby of Macon; stepmother, Ann Irby of Lizella; his siblings, DiAnne Irby Smith of Lizella, Teresa Irby Simpson (Bobby) of Acworth, Bartow Irby of Warner Robins, Scott Irby of Bullard, Beth Wallace (Pat) of Macon, Tracy Mullis (Mike) of Macon, David Landress (Sally) of Daytona, Jeff Landress (Carla) of North Carolina, Julie Walton of Lizella; a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loyal companion, Nico.
