Mary Octavia Weaver died on Tuesday, July 21 in Florence, South Carolina where she has resided for the past few years at the Methodist Manor Retirement Home. She was born in Macon, Georgia and lived there all of her life until recently. Mary was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Hudnall Gentry Weaver of Macon. She attended the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree from Mercer University with an emphasis on History. Mary had an engaging personality and was active in Alpha Delta Pi sorority and many campus organizations. She taught at Southwest High School in Macon for thirty five years where she was loved by countless students.
She was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church, the Mark Anthony Sunday School Class, the Junior League of Macon, the History Club, the National Society of the Colonial Dames in the state of Georgia, Friends of the Cannonball House, Historic Macon, the Historic Rose Hill Foundation and the Sidney Lanier Chapter of U.D.C.
Mary is survived by her beloved Sister, Ann Weaver Paschal of Columbia, SC; Nephews, Robert Sheldon Paschal III (Rhoda) of Columbia, SC and Dr. Hudnall Weaver Paschal (Tracie) of Florence, SC; three Great Nieces: Rhoda Jane Bowers (Matt), Ann Sheldon Paschal and Emily Lauren Paschal and two Great-great Nephews, Matthew Lee Bowers, Jr. and Charles Paschal Bowers.
A Memorial Service will be held at Vineville United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary immediately following the service. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Vineville Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon 31204.
