Mary Josephine “Jo” Sumner, 94, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 in Marietta, GA where she had moved to be near her family. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2015 in the Chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with inurnment in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Richard Kremer will officiate. The family will meet friends from 1:30 p.m. to service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Mary Jo Sumner to Vineville Baptist Church Endowment Fund, 2591 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204-2892.
Mrs. Sumner, wife of the late Grover Wright Sumner, was born in Chattanooga, TN the daughter of the late Roy Trotter Duncan and Clifford Ratliff Duncan. She had lived in Macon a number of years and was a member of Vineville Baptist Church. Mrs. Sumner was a devoted homemaker whose joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her beloved family, her daughters, Carol (John) Starr of Marietta and Jennifer (Richard) Glenn of Jupiter, FL; her son, Robert (Jane) Sumner of Suwanee; her grandchildren, Shannon (Rikk) Calandros, Sherridan (James) Santivanez, Shane O’Meara, Wendy (Steve) Ladner, Jay (Amanda) Starr, IV, Emily Sumner, Trent Sumner and Bethany Sumner and twelve great grandchildren.
