Marvin was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Jack Wesley and Martha Lois Smith Roberts. He graduated from Willingham High School and attended the University of Georgia, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. He married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Rachel Deese, and after a brief time in Rome, Ga, they returned home to Macon, Ga. In the early 1970s, he began working as a Certified Public Accountant at Butler, Williams & Wyche. In 1981 he was named partner and spent his career in estate planning, auditing and tax preparation. Marvin retired in 2012, after 44 years. He was known for the kindness and compassion he showed to his clients and co-workers, but more significant to him than his professional life was his home life. Marvin took his vows to his wife and role as father seriously and was devoted in shepherding his family in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Throughout his life, he was active at Emmanuel Church and Mulberry Street United Methodist Church and later Ingleside Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Prime Time Sunday school class. His last decade was spent battling a rare neurodegenerative disease, and his family is thankful for the peace he found in his Lord Jesus Christ.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 54 years Dianne; his children, Allison Roberts Kelly (Rob) of Savannah, Ga, and John Wesley Roberts (Robin) of Athens, Ga; and his grandchildren, Lucy and Betsy Kelly and Jack, Benjamin, Hudson and Elizabeth Roberts.
