Marvin “Ben” Odom, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 3, 2012. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum with Dr. William Hammond officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elam Alexander Academy, 2051 Second St., Macon, GA 31201 or to donor’s favorite charity. The grandsons will be serving as pallbearers, Wes Odom, Brent Beattie, Mitch Akin, Kelley Cole and Alex Odom.
Mr. Odom was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Anderson Emory and Mattie Odom. He was educated in the public school system, graduating from Lanier High School and was a graduate of the Air War College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and upon discharge, began his long and distinguished career in Federal Service. He retired as the Deputy Director of the Defense Supply Agency, Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church @ Bass Road and was a Sunday School Teacher of the Discipleship Bible Class. Mr. Odom was a Mason for over sixty years, having served as Master of the Fort Hawkins Lodge on two different occasions and he was also a Shriner. He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty two years, Marie Odom of Macon, five children, Phil (Melissa) Odom, Pam (Tracy) Gates, Vicki (Bobby) Akin, David (Jenny) Odom, and Jack (Christine) Odom, eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, sister, Nina Meredith of Macon and brother, Terry Odom of Atlanta.
