Marjorie “Margie” Ann Simmons Tanner, 84, died on January 14, 2022 after a long illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Park Memorial United Methodist Church, 5290 Arkwright Road, Macon, GA 31210 with Reverend Loran Smith officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Memorial or The Methodist Home for Children, 304 Pierce Ave, Macon, GA 31204.
Mrs. Tanner was born in Macon to the late Marcus V. Simmons and Trudy Poythress. She attended Miller High School, where she was selected a senior superlative and excelled scholastically. Mrs. Tanner also attended Mercer University, where she continued to be a good student. Mrs. Tanner was an Investment Banker at SunTrust Bank for over 30 years before her retirement. She was a hard worker and her customers loved her. She loved her family, a good joke and a bargain. Mrs. Tanner enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. She would help anyone in need, whether she knew them or not. She never wanted to see anyone hungry. Mrs. Tanner was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her brother, Mark Simmons.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon Tanner; daughter, Kate Pfirman (Walt) of Decatur; sons, Vernon Tanner, Jr. (Tracie) of Macon and William (“Bill”) Tanner of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Lauren (Adam) Blagg, Meredith Pfirman, Brooke Tanner and Kayleigh (Cameron) Flury; four great grandchildren, Rhonda, Kendall, Ivar and Freya; brother-in-law, Walter Tanner (Ann); niece, Dana Adams (Ross); nephew, Marcus (Carol) Simmons; cousins, Jane Wellborn (Paul), Summer Hahn and Pete Wellborn (Susan).
