Believer in The Lord Jesus Christ, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, educator, mentor, friend; these words and more embrace the life of Dr. Marilyn S. Vaughn. Always with a smile on her face and arms outstretched to give a warm embrace departed this life on July 2, 2014. She made those in her presence feel comfortable and loved. She was born to the late Jesse and Otelia Stroud in Macon Ga on July 22, 1932 in Macon Ga.
Marilyn received a BA degree from Howard University, a master’s degree from Newark State College and a doctorate in education from Columbia University. She worked as an advisor to student-teachers and an instructor at Columbia University. She was also an assistant professor at Trenton State College and a teacher in the Highland Park and New Brunswick, N.J. school systems. Upon retirement, Marilyn relocated to Ocala, FL in 1988 and returned to Macon, GA in 2012.
She is survived by her devoted and cherished husband of 63 years, Chester, her loving and caring children Valerie, Dwayne (Stephanie), Steven (Sharon), and Craig; her precious grandchildren, Kimberly, Christina (Kristopher) Chesterman, Matthew, Alisha, Erinn, Daniel, Taryn, Brian, Joshua and Bethany; great grandchildren Terrence, Denise and Jamie; her brother Lawrence (Elizabeth) Stroud; sisters Elise (James) Whyte, Gwendolyn Booker and Vernetha Bryant; sisters-in-law Mary and Anne Stroud; nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by brothers Alvin and Wilfred Stroud.
Visitation will be held at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA on Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at North Macon Presbyterian Church, 5707 Rivoli Drive, Macon, GA on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment service at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA will follow at 1:00 p.m.
