Margaret Sherling Riggins, 79, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2014 surrounded by her family. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Michael Kavanaugh officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. A Rosary will be said on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 5:30 PM and a visitation from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oliver Morton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) c/o Julia Simpson, 351 Skinner Road, Macon GA 31211-6815 or the the Pine Ridge Garden Club, 128 Weatherby Drive, Macon GA 31210.
Mrs. Riggins was born in Macon, Georgia to the late James and Eleanor Sherling. She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara McDevitt. Mrs. Riggins was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Oliver Morton Chapter, and for many years held many offices during her tenure. She was a past member/officer of the Pilot Club of Jones County Mrs. Riggins was retired from Bibb Company and IKON/GE. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, James “Jim” Riggins of Macon; daughters, Vickie (Blair) Vincent of Blackshear, GA; Cathy (Bill) Groff of Duluth, GA; Bonnie (Jim) Cocco of Cumming, GA; eight grandchildren, Valerie (Jason) Poppell, Aubrey (Jennifer) Cason, Kennington Groff, Camden Groff, Tyler (Kenley) Sheffield, Heather Cocco, Jill (Mike) McCune, and Kristi Bruce; three great grandchildren, Eliza McCune, Jack McCune, and Jaxson Poppell; siblings, Eleanor Sotello, Meta Davis, Jim Sherling, Emmitt Sherling, and Dorothy Camerio.
