MACON - Louise Palmer Davis, age 87, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at Pine Pointe Hospice of Central Georgia. She was born in Macon, Georgia on October 17, 1923 to Naomi Rustin and William Clarence Palmer.
During World War II, Mrs. Davis was employed by Southern Bell as a switchboard operator. She was a military spouse and lived at different times at Air Force Bases in Georgia, New Hampshire and in France. She retired from the circulation department of The Macon Telegraph and News and then worked at Eastside Lumber Company. She was also a mother and a homemaker.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Northridge Baptist Church and formerly a member of Cross Keys Baptist Church where she taught a children’s Sunday School class for many years. She loved to sing and she loved to cook. She was famous among family and friends for her hoecake cornbread and banana pudding. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving when she cooked dinner for family and friends into her eighties.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Felton Lee Davis, and her sister, Helen Kilzer. She is survived by her son, Lou Davis and his wife Gwynell Davis of Macon, Georgia; her daughter, Margie Donnelly and her husband Rick Donnelly of Gainesville, Florida; her sister, Mary Smallwood of Macon, Georgia; her grandchildren; Brandon Davis (Julie) and Dameron Davis (Meagon) of Macon, Georgia; Will Donnelly of Houston, Texas; Bridget Donnelly Ridley (Dyer) of Williamsburg, Virginia; her great grandchildren: Maggie and Madelyn Davis, Hannah Davis, Will and George Ridley; her nephew Barry Smallwood (Donna); and her close friends in the Wayne McBride family.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 14, at 10 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, entering at the North Gate. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, July 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel on Cherry Street. The Reverend Sam Scarborough will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a favorite charity.
